Privacy Policy
Last updated October 21, 2026. This covers The Wire Desk Apple TV app beta and this website.
The short version
- The anchor you talk to is an AI, not a person.
- When you call in, your microphone audio is streamed to Google (Gemini Live) and Amazon (Amazon Transcribe) so the anchor can hear and answer your question. Nothing is recorded by us.
- We do not store the text of your questions together with who you are.
- The only personal details the app keeps are a first name and a city, and only if you enter them.
Your voice
The microphone is used only while your line to the newsroom is open: from the moment the anchor takes your call until the call ends. During that time the audio is sent, encrypted, to two services:
- Google Gemini Live (Google LLC) listens to your question and produces the anchor's spoken answer. Google processes this audio under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Amazon Transcribe (Amazon Web Services) turns your speech into live text, so the app can tell when you have finished talking and show captions. AWS processes this audio under the AWS Privacy Notice.
If you dictate with the Siri Remote's microphone instead, Apple's dictation turns your speech into text under Apple's privacy policy, and that text is sent to Gemini Live in place of audio.
The audio goes from your device straight to those services. It does not pass through our servers, and we do not record or keep it.
Your questions
We do not store the text of your questions with your name, your city, or your invite key. Our servers never receive your question text at all: they only count how many questions a beta tester has asked during a show (the limit is three), so the count is kept against an anonymous tester number, not the content. Our server logs record request status and timing, never question text or keys.
The app keeps a short diagnostic log on your Apple TV that can include the on-screen captions of a call. It stays on the device, is replaced each time the app starts, and is not sent to us.
Your name and city
You can enter a first name and a city in Settings so the anchor can greet you. They are optional. They are kept on your Apple TV, and they are sent with each call so the anchor can use your first name. Our servers do not store them. We never ask for your email address, phone number, or location.
Beta invite keys
Each beta tester gets an invite key. We store only a one-way hash of the key, a label we chose when inviting you, and the per-show question count. Keys can be revoked at any time. When the beta ends, we delete these records.
